These include the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA), the Ministry of State Security (MSS), and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Despite these controls and government oversight, the Chinese internet has continued to grow, with the country now home to the world's largest e-commerce market. E-commerce platforms like Alibaba's Taobao and Tmall have become essential for both consumers and businesses in China, and the country's digital economy is now worth billions of dollars. The internet in China is vital to the growth of the Chinese economy.
