Russia, Taliban Deny Speculation That the Taliban Will Join Hamas
Media Speculates On Whether the Taliban Will Join Israel-Hamas War
In a recent statement, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, denied reports suggesting that the Taliban would intervene in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the side of the Hamas movement, Russian state-linked media outlet TASS wrote on October 9. Russia's statement came along with an official statement from the Taliban denying the claim, the American government linked news outlet Voice of America reported on October 9.
Kabulov dismissed the information as false and labeled it as "nonsense and fake."
Various international media outlets have, over the week, speculated that the Taliban might align with Hamas during the recent escalation of tensions in the long-standing conflict.
However, Kabulov firmly rejected these claims, stating, "Absolutely not." He further attributed the dissemination of such misinformation to "an emotional outburst."
While acknowledging the Taliban's sympathy for the Palestinian cause, Kabulov emphasized that the extremist group lacks the capability to intervene in the conflict. He clarified that the reports circulating in the media were baseless and lacked credibility.
The recent flare-up of violence began on October 7 when Israel came under missile attack from the Gaza Strip. Simultaneously, groups of Palestinian militants from the Hamas movement infiltrated Israeli territory, prompting clashes with Israeli forces.
Responding swiftly, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) declared a state of readiness for war and launched a series of retaliatory actions known as Operation Iron Swords.
The Palestinian operation, according to Hamas Politburo Head Ismail Haniyeh, was a response to aggressive actions by the Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem.
In light of the escalating situation, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant authorized the call-up of IDF reservists and expanded the special security measures nationwide.
As tensions continue to rise, the international community remains on high alert. With the conflict garnering significant attention, rumors and speculation have fueled concerns about potential external interventions. However, Moscow's clear denial of Taliban involvement in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict aims to dispel any unfounded claims.
The Russian government has been closely monitoring the situation and continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Amid the violence and bloodshed, diplomatic efforts must take center stage to ensure the safety and well-being of all parties involved.
