Imam Sheikh Murdered by Boko Haram
Imam Killed on October 30
Chief Imam Sheikh Baba Goni Muktar Malumti was killed by Boko Haram terrorists in an attack on Beneshiekh town, Kaga LGA, Borno State. The terrorists had initially entered the house of an Islamic scholar, but upon realizing that he was not their intended target, they proceeded to Malumti's residence. The attack took place at approximately 01:15hrs on Monday, October 30, 2023, local media reported.
Following the killing of Malumti, the terrorists also set his collection of Islamic books ablaze, further devastating the community. The loss of such valuable resources is a blow to the religious and academic community in the area.
In a separate incident, another group of terrorists invaded Makinta Kururi town and abducted two hunters. The continuous acts of violence and abduction by Boko Haram have instilled fear and uncertainty among residents, who live in constant fear for their safety.
In yet another tragic incident, Inspector Luka, a police officer deployed to MOPOL 53, was killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists while working on his farm at Indimi Housing Estate in Bama, Borno State. The terrorists, hiding in a tree, ambushed Inspector Luka, disarmed him, and took his uniform before ultimately taking his life. This incident highlights the vulnerability of security forces in the face of such attacks.
The ongoing violence perpetrated by Boko Haram in Borno State continues to pose a significant challenge to the Nigerian government's efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. Despite ongoing military operations and increased security measures, the insurgents remain a persistent threat to the lives and livelihoods of the local population.
The loss of Sheikh Baba Goni Muktar Malumti, a respected religious leader, is a significant blow to the community. His contributions to Islamic scholarship and guidance will be sorely missed. The attack on his residence and the destruction of his books further underscores the terrorists' disregard for education, culture, and peaceful coexistence.
The Nigerian government must intensify its efforts to combat Boko Haram and protect its citizens from these acts of violence. It is crucial to provide adequate support and resources to security forces operating in the region to ensure their safety and effectiveness. Additionally, investment in education and community development programs is essential to counter extremist ideology and provide opportunities for the population vulnerable to recruitment by terrorist groups.
The recent attacks on Beneshiekh town, Makinta Kururi town, and the tragic killing of Inspector Luka serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram. It is imperative that the Nigerian government, in collaboration with international partners, continues to prioritize the eradication of terrorism and the restoration of peace in Borno State and beyond.
